ATLANTIC CLUB MAY FINALLY REOPEN AS A NON-GAMING HOTEL AND THAT GIVES US PAUSE

The Atlantic Club??sits all alone at the south end of the Boardwalk.

I sometimes stroll by and begin recalling those weekends.
The??Hilton??(among several former titles for the property) was my destination of choice. Those dinners in Peregrines and The Oaks are tough to overlook.
I still remember my brief meeting with the late James Gandolfini??(aka??Tony Soprano) along with the cast in the hit HBO??show The Sopranos. It was 2006 and the Atlantic Club, along with most of the resort town, was enjoying a couple of years of equilibrium.
The Club was your basic casino hotel with slots and table games, and it provided an escape from the audiences that may easily conquer boardwalk and the beaches further north. Particularly in the summermonths.
Today, its best??known??for being the earliest of four Atlantic City casinos to close in 2014.
However, Atlantic Clubs destiny could change for the better.
The Associated Press reported on Monday that Atlantic Club had found a new proprietor. Colosseo Atlantic City Inc., a New York City-based investment and building firm,??bought it in TJM Properties. The purchase price wasnt disclosed.
The information really does make me wonder if this may eventually be the bargain that brings back the Atlantic Club to life, although it is not the casino made in AC.
And when this does happen, will the home work well in Atlantic City?
After several unsuccessful attempts to sell the 800-room home, it looks like TJM (operator and owner of The Claridge Hotel) eventually found a suitable buyer.
Weve made every attempt to find a buyer who might realize the potential of this Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, said??Matt Bradley, among the heads of operations and development for TJM who managed the purchase.
The owner did not elaborate on plans. However, allowing the resort sit vacant for the following five years does not appear to be in the cards.
We are anticipating working at Atlantic City??and restoring such a great property, said Rocco Sebastiani, Colosseos chief. His strategy would be to operate the home as a hotel.
Rummy Pandit, executive manager of the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism in Stockton University, appeared optimistic about the Atlantic Club sale.
Locating a new buyer for one of the lowest properties of Atlantic City has not exactly gone. There were A few other suggested prices made public but didnt pan out for any reason or the other.
Heres a return:
In addition, it doesnt help that the buildings outside is deteriorating. The 2018 openings of Ocean Casino and Hard Rock turned on the spotlight away from anything could have occurred with Atlantic Club, also.
If and when the house does reopen, theres a good opportunity The Atlantic Club signal will be on the construction.
Just call it the swap onto a very long list of names.
The land was opened by former Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn like the Golden Nugget??back in??1980. Some may even remember the commercials featuring Frank Sinatra:
Wynn ended up purchasing the property. It had a collection of ownership and name changes throughout the next two decades.
After the land closed on Jan. 13, 2014,??Caesars Entertainment??and??Tropicana Entertainment??bought it. The sale needed to be accepted by a bankruptcy court judge.
That year possession was obtained by TJM Properties.
For the very first time because 2014, its looking like there could be hope for The Atlantic Club (or whatever they decide to call it).
And we arent speaking about it being used to film scenes for Zack Snyders upcoming Army of the Dead movie.??
But details about variety of chambers the redesign, and conveniences have to be declared. That will make me hesitate a bit if Im going to be honest. After all, most of us waited for years to get Glenn Straub.
Is that it will be a hotel because of a restriction placed on the home. And should that project come to fruition, Stockton University people could take full advantage of their close proximity.
With regards to what makes sense for the owner and clients, Pandit reported a facility??notion could be a win-win.
Something which is part condominium and a part hotel , said Pandit, would enable residents to have access to the restaurants, health club and spa, valet parking, and room service offerings.??
Can it produce memories that are fresh because the Hilton did? Probably not.
But for Atlantic City, whether its going to establish itself as much more of a destination that is year-round, bringing back hotels to existence is a superb start. No one likes an eye-sore.
