Daniil Medvedev trolls US Open crowd after win: ‘I won because of you’

(CNN) — Daniil Medvedev has become this year’s US Open villain.
The Russian conquered Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-6(1), 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4 — his second four-set triumph in consecutive times — but it had been his unruly behavior in the court that had fans lustily booing the 23-year-old at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Friday’s night session.
Medvedev obtained at the first group under the lovers’ skin, after he angrily grabbed a towel out of a ballperson when he obtained a code violation. His racquet withdrew when learning of the breach that he had been awarded by chair umpire Damien Dumusois.
Following a confrontation with Dumusois, TV cameras picked up Medvedev putting a hand to his mind that give the middle finger outside of Dumusois’ perspective. Boos rained down from the audience, and Lopez quickly became the fan favourite.
After he won, besieged by boos, Medvedev increased his arms up motioning to the crowd.
“Thank you all, guys, because your energy gave me the win,” Medvedev said in a meeting court. “Because if you were not here, men, I probably would lose the game. Because I had been exhausted, I had been cramping yesterday. It had been hard. So I want every one of you to understand when you sleep tonight, I won for you”
The boos lasted.
“The power you’re giving me now, guys, I believe it’ll be enough for my five following games. I mean, the more you do so, the more I will win for you guys.”
Nothing new for Russian
In regards to Medvedev controversy is not anything new. Including tossing coins in the direction of chair umpire Mariana Alves after a five-set loss in 2017 in Wimbledon, he was fined $14,500 for several infractions.
He was disqualified from a Challenger event a year earlier in Georgia to get a racist comment. Aggrieved a call went when playing Donald Young, he explained to the chair umpire Sandy French — Young and French are equally black –“I know you are friends. I am confident about it”
He later apologized.
Earlier this season, such as winning his first Masters 1000 title in the Cincinnati suburb of Mason, Ohio, Even the Russian has ruled the hard courts this summer. His opponent would likely be qualifier Dominik Koepfer.
