US Open 2019: Belinda Bencic beats Donna Vekic to reach first Grand Slam semi-final

Hit her first Grand Slam semi-final and switzerland’s Belinda Bencic put aside friendship to defeat Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the US Open.
Even the 13th seed, who knocked out defending winner Naomi Osaka in the prior round, won 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 against her good friend.
She’ll face Canadian Bianca Andreescu or Elise Mertens .
The 22-year-old will return to the top 10 of the world rankings.
She reached a career-high seventh earlier accidents and wrist surgery left her as much as 328th.
“I dreamed of the like a little kid so I’m here I am actually enjoying it,” said Bencic, that finished a last-minute wait to improve her previous best Grand Slam showing of a US Open quarter-final.

Vekic, 23, had her opportunity at the first set, where she broke into the ninth game but didn’t serve it with it going into a tie-break, that Bencic took control of.
The Swiss broke twice in the next group, sealing victory on her third match point when Vekic hit a forehand wide.
The group shared a warm embrace and Bencic was convinced their friendship would last.
“We are both professional enough to be friends from the court and aggressive on the court,” Bencic explained. “I think we did well. I am sure the court off we’re friends ”
