Bulgaria vs England racism in European Qualifier: Managers have their say

Adhering to the fall-out out of the episodes in Sofia of Monday, directors had his own say on whether Gareth Southgate could have been justified in allowing his players to roam off the pitch at Sofia and have shared their perspectives.
Jurgen Klopp:We didnt speak about it, and the players didnt develop with it. I thought they dealt really well with this situation. After everybody talked about it, it was like there was no game. Truly was a match, and that the response that is sensational was shown by the players . You need to reveal the reaction and can make them endure in the right way.
In the end it is not important who strikes first, it is important who laughs and it was clearly the England players. There was no effect on the rest and the operation we do not need to talk [about], it is disgusting. Nobody wants to hear that and see that.
Steven Gerrard:I was very proud. I thought they handled themselves Harry Kane revealed immense leadership and Gareth well. It was disgusting, it had been a disgrace. I thought they did the right thing winning the match and staying on and proving a point that way. However, I believed they managed the routine and their responsibilities out there amazingly.
As an Englishman and an ex-player I had been ever so pleased. I have been in the place myself with Rhian Brewster with Liverpool U19s and that I believe the important thing in the time would be to listen to the players and what they need to do and react from there.
Pep Guardiola:I believe UEFA made a step ahead. They stopped the match two times or three times. Fight daily with this present circumstance. Everything we are currently doing or going to do to help to eradicate it is welcome. Supervisor and the players are not alone, everybody else is involved. Whatever we decide, we can do.
Brendan Rodgers:I thought Gareth and his staff and players were great. They have made it crystal very clear that there is likely to be a stance. We have not seen them set in position although weve learned about sanctions. In this society, players should never have to be vulnerable to that.
I was pleased watching them, when I watched a bunch of young men fighting to get their team-mates who were abused. I felt pleased watching it that this may be the start of a position since we are currently trying to eradicate [it]. That may be the beginning. It is something which we can not stand for.
Frank Lampard in his own experience:I went with England in specific parts of Europe and felt what we all felt, and possibly did not speak about enough. I think the body and the organisations need to earn a big step, I really dont think players should be relied on to be creating steps.
The Way England dealt by it, from boss through personnel through players was something really excellent to see. Its not that the end of the story but I think it shows that were moving in the perfect direction and it has to carry on.
Eddie Howe:Personally, I dont believe I would have performed [taken players off of this pitch]. I believe playing with the game and performing and demonstrating your skills is the approach to answer any sort of opinions. I believe the players want to play and I think that showed.
Its just my opinion but I really dont believe you want to find the match stopped and almost permit that vile abuse to win, but it is a major subject of conversation and everyone will have a different view, that is only my thoughts.
Roy Hodgson:I thought they were fantastic. I thought they did everything right. I dont know if anything would have been gained by these coming off the pitch. When folks are attempting to upset you in that way by racially abusing you, in some ways you can not get a better method than England beating them like they did, however, I still do not believe there could have been some more publicity
Nuno Espirito Santo:I believe in football, the institutions and governments have to do everything that they can to completely eradicate racism, but its a societal problem. But with visibility and the strength of football, I believe I support. Until the moment us as humans dont prevent it, it will continue. I trust and truly believe with the next generations it will be .
Graham Potter:I didnt watch the match to be fair but pretty similar to everyone else [I believe ] its sad, really sad. Unfortunately it is a society problem as far since its a football issue but it is. And of course as a club we are totally supportive of any campaign to instruct and also be sure we do not have to witness those sort of events.
Ralph Hasenhuttl:I think its absolutely the right thing to show a very hard shoulder to get racism. If fans reveal this habit it is something you have to be very, very difficult the only means would be to be as difficult as you can against countries clubs or teams against. Dont deny it, dont look away, look It in the eye and say,it isnt okay, we have to shift it. Because its a platform where you could demonstrate this and also we have to be quite strict and very tough to keep this out of the scene.
Mauricio Pochettino discussing Harry Kanes behaviour as captain at Sofia:Obviously when youre on the touchline that you will need to understand the players always have rights and its difficult to maintain their position, know how they feel if they endure abuse like this. Thats why I will always encourage my gamers.
Harry handled everything perfectly, I want to congratulate him. He was composed, the situation has been under management. He showed great maturity in these types of situations which are not always simple to manage.
Dean Smith praised Tyrone Mings for earning his England debut in such difficult circumstances:Hes come back here and trained, got on with things as regular and not said a lot about it. I can only sing his praises. When we talk to them and look at players and go we understand what they are likely to bring football-wise, however its personality that you are trying to learn, that personality about. JT and me proceeded to meet with him he impressed . Having met with him, brought him here and signed him – we have seen him every day and it does not surprise me he handled the whole situation. Hes articulate, smart and quite a good human being too.
