Former UFC champion Cris Cyborg has signed with rival promotion Bellator in what the organisation describes as”the biggest deal in women’s MMA history”.
34, brazilian-American Cyborg, is the only fighter to successfully defend the featherweight title and was UFC featherweight winner for 517 times.
By beating Felicia Spencer to finish in the business with seven wins and one loss, she finished her UFC profession in July.
Her defeat by Amanda Nunes last year ended a winning series.
“I have worked with hundreds of athletes within my 30-plus decades of promoting battle sports, but there is nothing like Cyborg,” explained Bellator president Scott Coker, who’d previously worked with Cyborg at the Strikeforce advertising.
“Cyborg is the most dominant female fighter in the history of this game and she will be an ideal fit here in Bellator.”
Cyborg will now have the opportunity to acquire a name at a fourth MMA advertising, having held straps at Strikeforce, Invicta and UFC.
“You guys know I have a lot of girls I’d like to fight at 145lbs and this indicates that you’re going to have a great deal of fights each year and I’m quite happy about that,” she said.
“My Objective is to be the sole female fighter to hold four different Significant names in the Exact Same branch”
