Danny Cowley says Huddersfield represents the”best opportunity” for his next step in direction and insists the”easy” alternative will have been to stay in Lincoln.
Even the 40-year-old signed up a bargain together with assistant manager Nicky along with his brother in the John Smith’s Arena to replace head coach Jan Siewert at the Championship club Monday.
Cowley directed Lincoln and will now bid to arrest Huddersfield form, together with all the Terriers second from bottom in the league.
“You take a look at the current standing in the Championship and esteem it has been a really difficult time for the football club but that actually excites me since we enjoy a battle,” said Cowley.
“We always believed the next move would need to be the ideal opportunity and we view this as being the perfect opportunity. We feel we could add value .
“The opportunity to be the managers rather than head trainer is very important to us because that is how we have always worked. It is always about creating.”
Huddersfield, who had been relegated from the Premier League last year, haven’t won in 17 games in all competitions and were conquered by Lincoln at Carabao Cup last month.
Cowley turned down the opportunity to talk to Huddersfield concerning the vacancy but took the job because of the assurance that the brothers would have a hands on role in shaping the progress of the club.
“I look at the task facing us and can’t wait to start,” Cowley added.
“We want to be challenged. I would like to live everyday life. The safer option could have been to remain a club, at Lincoln.
“It’d have been a lot easier to remain but we are not interested in simple decisions. We want to examine ourselves.”
Cowley will start his Huddersfield tenure against Sheffield Wednesday, who’ll possess Gary Monk in the dugout for the very first time, even on Sunday – live on Sky Sports.
“The short-term aims would be to find a way to play winning football but for us it has got to be a long-term project,” Cowley said.
“Winning on Saturday isn’t enough for me. It is all about winning on winning. We’re clear about the vision for Huddersfield Town. We know where we would like to go.”
Cowley added that he along with his brother come as a couple, having worked together at Braintree and Concord earlier Lincoln.
“We’re used to working together,” he explained. “We’ve lived our lives into each others’ pockets. We are personalities but are very much aligned on the processes. Most importantly we have hope.”
