British number two Heather Watson has reached the quarter finals of their Tianjin Open after documenting her best win for two decades.
Watson took just one hour and 20 minutes to defeat second seed Wang Qiang 6-3 6-0 – earlier this season, who attained the US Open quarter-finals.
Watson hadnt beaten a top-50 participant but dominated against 22nd-ranked Wang – claiming her best victory because a win over then World No19 Anastasija Sevastova at Wimbledon in 2017.
In the last eight, Polands Magda Linette, that advanced following the retirement of Kurumi Nara when she was 4-0 down in the first set will be faced by Watson.
Another win will be sufficient to propel Watson back .
