After two games in Houston, the American League Championship Series Changes to New York City since the Astros match with the series tied at one game apiece, with the Yankees for Match three.
The Yankees took game one of the series behind a huge sport since the kid drove in five runs. As he threw six innings of shutout ball that is one-hit, masahiro Tanaka was amazing about the mound. And Zack Greinke lasted his recent playoff struggles as he picked up the loss, pitching six innings and allowing three runs, all made.
Game two was a pitcher’s duel because Justin Verlander bounced back from a weak performance from the ALDS to control again. Verlander pitched two-thirds of an inning and also six and allowed two runs. Since James Paxton apparently tipped his pitches, Even the Yankees used a committee approach and was quickly pulled from the game. Game two wasn’t determined until the base of the inning when Carlos Correa broke up the tie using a walk-off home series to give Houston the triumph.
After an exciting two games in Houston, this series heads into New York, and something tells me as the two these teams are great that this series just might go the space. Both teams would like to take the show lead tonight, and now we have a blockbuster beginning pitching matchup.
Starting for the Yankees is currently Luis Severino (0-0 0.00 ERA), also for the Astros it’s Gerrit Cole (2-0 0.57 ERA). The match total over-under is put at seven and a half conducts. The Astros are -149 street favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 1:08 PM PST in Yankee Stadium.
This year, essentially the year was missed by luis Severino. After a breakout campaign in 2018, winning nineteen games, he also looked to be the ace for many years ahead and signed a big contract. But for the entire year , mostly on his shoulder, then he was shut down after injuries, and he did not make an appearance this season.
The Yankees were looking to work though as he pitched only twelve innings to wrap up the regular time, back him slow. As he allowed two earned runs strong effects were posted by him in those three begins, as he awakened seventeen Ks along with his signature strikeout ability shined. New York began Severino against the Minnesota Twins in game three of their ALDS, and he was strong as he did not give up a run and pitched four innings.
I would expect the Yankees to maintain a tight leash Severino tonight, and I can not imagine he will pitch over five innings max. The Yankees are just one of the best bullpens in the match, and they demonstrated they aren’t scared to use it. Severino has made seven playoff appearances in his career and hasn’t been great as he is 1-2 with a 5.33 in twenty-seven innings pitched.
What Gerrit Cole has been able to do this year is really historical. In his last twenty five starts, he is a remarkable 18-0. He’s striking out men . Cole has had double-digit strikeouts in begins this season, including eleven direct. Twenty-six from the very final twenty-nine and the Astros don’t appear to ever lose when Cole starts as they have won his fifteen begins.
In the playoffs, Cole has somehow been even better as he’s been untouchable. In two starts against the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, he pitched a combined fifteen and two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run and just six hits. He has strikeouts. They’ve used Cole deep into games, and 225 pitches in two starts have thrown. I’d anticipate the exact same tonight from Cole who comes in on a five days rest.
It’s truly hard for road teams to win games in Yankee Stadium in the playoffs. New York always seems to look after business. Therefore, I hate to have to wager against them, particularly as home underdogs, but this is just what I am going to do. Severino disturbs me much as the guy has ever been better at home than on the road, but he has not pitched enough this season to be completely stretched out, and I think Houston is going to figure out ways to score him early and by the fourth of fifth inning this game will get turned around to the Yankee bullpen.
And when you look at Gerrit Cole, the man can’t be stopped. He has allowed two runs or fewer in relation to the begins this season, that includes fourteen. I do not care which group this guy is pitching from and right now, Cole is just too good not to wish to back , where this game is played.
I visit Cole pitching possibly more, at least seven innings depending on pitch count, and when the Yankees can’t get him from this match, they aren’t going to have the ability to score many runs. I actually think as this Yankees bullpen is better compared to Severino at this 33, that the fact that Severino will likely be on a pitch count is a poor thing for Houston. But in the end, the few runs Houston should be able to score off of him early should be sufficient to buy them the W. Give that the Houston Astros as street favorites tonight from Yankee Stadium at -149 to me!
