Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for August.
Four goals and three assists that Preston director Alex Neil was right to hand Johnson a role. The reversal of position has given his moves impact as creativity is lent by him into the North End assault.
Johnson said:”On an individual level I am happy to receive the award, but without the boys that this wouldn’t have been achievable, so credit for them too.
“I have been really delighted with the beginning of the season, however there’s still a very long way to go; hopefully I can keep up this form and continue to help the team. I like to play in that position higher up the pitch, so at which I can contribute with aids and intentions.”
Swansea manager Steve Cooper was named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month.
New to administration and without Daniel James and Oli McBurnie, the stars of last season’s group, Cooper’s accomplishment in Swansea unbeaten and also the top of the Championship is nothing short of exceptional.
Cooper said:”This award isn’t about a person – it’s a reflection of their hard work and effort put not only by the players but the coaching staff and everyone connected to the club.
“In the little bit of time I have been here, it is clear to me that each and every person working for this club is indeed excited and driven to assist Swansea City advancement.
“Results-wise it has been a fantastic start for us, and I am delighted for everyone none more so than the fans since they’ve been incredible.
“We’re just six matches in so we aren’t getting removed. The challenge for everybody now is to stay focused and continue working hard to ensure our great start is more than that.”
Manager: Paul Lambert, Ipswich
Ipswich manager Paul Lambert was appointed the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month.
Turning a mindset around isn’t straightforward. Ipswich won five games a year, however they managed four victories and picked up 14 points. Lambert’s beliefs in his players is catching.
Lambert stated:”It is great to receive the award but it is a collective for everyone involved. From the service behind me by the team was fantastic. The players are performing every week and when they do that, you have the plaudits.”
Player: Marcus Maddison
Peterborough midfielder Marcus Maddison was named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for August.
August attracted three goals and six assists to the mercurial midfielder. Maddison enhanced as the month went on to the point where he was unplayable against both whom he scored stunning free kicks.
Maddison said:”It is an award that I haven’t won previously, so I am very glad that I’ve been given this award.
“It will mean a lot. I’ve had a fantastic beginning to the seasonI have belief in my team-mates, the supervisor was brilliant with me personally and now I would say I am not at full fitness yet, so to win the award off the rear of this, is fantastic. Hopefully I can carry on my shape and the group could carry that form ahead.”
Manager: Matt Taylor
Exeter manager Matt Taylor has been appointed the Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month.
Three times in August his side plundered a goal in the final five minutes. That turned an normal start into an outstanding one with 14 points from six games.Taylor has his players hungry to mount a marketing challenge.
Taylor explained:”It’s been a good month, but that is all down to the players. I’ve got and when a manager is awarded the supervisor of this month then it is because the consequences are there – and that’s simply down to the players.
“You need to continue playing well, you want to keep on picking up things. We had a meeting this morning in which the accent had been on the opportunities to come in the upcoming few months, and we’ve got to take advantage of them.
“The lads appear to be enjoying their football and their coaching. They’re working hard, but sport is strange, and it changes so fast. A bit of luck here and there, that we have had so far this year, however, the performances will need to keep on building and I will continue asking for more from this group”
Player: James Hanson, Grimsby
Grimsby striker James Hanson has been called the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month for August.
Strikers just would like to be loved and at Blundell Park, Hanson was made the focal point of the Grimsby assault – given the source of crosses where he thrives. Five goals and two assists in August contained a header.
Hanson stated:”If you come to a different club you always try and hit the floor running, and mercifully I have done that so much better. I have managed to have 5 goals and three assists and, more importantly, the team has started well so I am happy.
“I am delighted to get this, and it just shows how well we’re doing as a team as well, along with the gaffer was in the nominees for the Supervisor of the Month award. So it just shows that we’re on the ideal path, and we’ve begun how we wanted to get started.”
