Raheem Sterling says ‘society must grow up’ and tackle racism

Raheem Sterling has called on society to”wake up” and realise footballers are”human beings simply doing their jobs” as players are still racially abused.
A variety of players, such as Sterling’s fellow England internationals Marcus Rashford and Tammy Abraham, are targeted online after lost this year to penalties.
Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku was racially abused by Cagliari supporters during a Serie A game a week, also Sterling says things need to change.
He told Sky Sports News:”It’s simple to say what happens next but there’s a great deal of folks behind a computer screen. Those are the ones which believe they could get away with stuff like this and are unsatisfactory.
“We’re in 2019 and we’re still discussing this. I can not say I’ve the response to prevent it but.
“The folks doing it need to wake up and understand it is a new age and discrimination isn’t something anyone should confront.
“We need to grow up as a society and realize we are just out here doing our tasks. We are human beings and we have feelings.
“It’s a touchy subject but I can not tell you I have the exact answer. However, as a society we need to perform better and appreciate each other more.”
Sterling was outspoken in calling out racism during his career, also called for Montenegro to become passed a stadium ban after he had been one of several England players to be abused throughout the group’s win there last year.
Discussing before England triumph over Bulgaria on Saturday, Marcus Rashford predicted to do much more to prevent their users abusing others on line.
“For me personally, it’s too easy to do whatever you prefer on the world wide web,” Rashford explained. “Any people today could go on and create stories and write what we want under anyone’s posts and nobody would ever know.
“The solution is not hard to work out – if you had to show identification to make an account that means everyone can only have one account.
“For me personally, there’s hundreds of thousands of people that use my name on social networking and they’re able to write what they like.
“But folks are talking out and folks are listening hopefully we can put it directly.”
