Wales director Ryan Giggs has confessed that it was a tricky decision to add Tom Lawrence within his 26-man group to face Slovakia and Croatia later this month.
Last month, later being involved after a group night with Derby County lawrence was charged.
The 25-year-old is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on October 15, alongside team team-mate Mason Bennett, who has also been charged with drink-driving.
“This was a case of speaking to everybody involved,” said Giggs. “We’ve been liaising with Derby and I talked with Philip Cocu to find out exactly what their stance was. It was not a simple decision.
“But from a football point of view, he played last night with Derby and I wanted him engaged in the group. He’s an important player for us.”
Wales face Slovakia at a Euro 2020 qualifier in Trnava on October 10 earlier World Cup finalists Croatia and the Cardiff City Stadium on October 13 visit – .
“It’s not going to be easy because he might be considering that,” said Giggs. “I’ll see how he’s through the week, observe how he trains and make a determination whether to begin with him or not in any of those matches ”
Central defender Ashley Williams returns after being left out to last month wins over Belarus and Azerbaijan. Williams was with no club at the time but has joined Championship side Bristol City.
“If Ash plays then he is the captain,” supported Giggs. “It’s good to have him back. He had not had a club that was why I left him but he’s playing well and playing frequently so he is back in.”
Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey comes back into the squad while Gareth Bale and also Daniel James have also been included.
Wales are currently fourth in their eligibility category, having taken six points from their opening four matches.
