General manager Mickey Loomis told Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio recently that the Saints have experienced”some conversations” about a new contract to its star receiver but would not go into detail.
“We’ve had some discussions, and I enjoy keeping that close to the vest until there is something to report, but lookwe adore what Mike’s done for us,” Loomis said. “He is a wonderful player, among the very best at his position in the league, and hopefully we can keep him a Saint for quite a while as well.”
The Saints go-to getting goal, Thomas has become one of the most consistent dangers in the NFL, compiling yards and a least 90 catches each of his few seasons in the league. Since Drew Brees’ security blanket, the wideout is coming off a 1,405-yard season.
A second-round pick in 2016, Thomas enters the final season of his rookie contract, place to create $1.148 million — peanuts compared to his worth. There is little doubt that the Saints would love to keep their No. 1 goal happy and paid. However, the franchise tag seems likely for the star receiver, if it does not happen within the upcoming few months.
