Former Wales captain Sam Warburton has predicted on World Rugby to standardise the manner concussion is handled.
After suffering blows to the head in matches warburton praised England’s and Wales remedy of players.
But the two-time Irish and British Lions captain claimed the same standards are not fulfilled in France.
“France do not treat concussion seriously and they have had deaths in the past 12 months,” he told the Scrum V podcast.
Warburton said Wales’ decision to eliminate fly-half Rhys Patchell early within their defeat on 7 September was praiseworthy.
However Warburton, who retired in July 2018 aged 29 after repeated injury problems, included:”I’m not sure whether that happens in France.
“And what I’ve heard from coaches and players, they don’t take concussion seriously so that’s where I believe World Rugby do have to enter lots of those temptations.
“I have been dealt with Twickenham where I’ve been knocked out; the RFU [Rugby Football Union] dealt with me brightly.
“Wales I believe do it brightly so I can say firsthand these two have things in order – I believe all the Home Nations have but I am not sure every other country has.”
Patchell failed a head injury assessment (HIA) following a heavy crash with Ireland rear row CJ Stander. The stand-off has been monitored and is predicted to fly on to Japan with Wales on Wednesday to take part.
The player suffered two concussions during the 2018-19 year playing Scarlets.
Wales coach Warren Gatland says Wales’ medical personnel will be consulted on Patchell’s past head injuries and also they will”see how he hires during the next few times”.
Warburton stated it was significant players do not return on the field after failing HIA tests.
“There is something known as second-impact syndrome, which can be when if you become concussed and you return on and get another concussion your chances of a fatality increase massively,” additional Warburton.
He explained Wales’ move in keeping Patchell off was”because he has had a concussion – it is not with the World Cup in sight, so it’s for the player’s safety”.
Four players – two amateurs and two professional – died in separate incidents in France between January 2019 and also May 2018
